Oh Schnaps 23 Part II

3 Nov

NONETHELESS, I made it back to Boston in one piece and then it hit me. Whoa, I’m 23! As a child, maybe teenager, I told myself by the end of my 23rd year I should have accomplished something amazing.  It’s sort of a deadline for me to become a famous actress, or designer, or writer…I don’t know, something.  I just felt a calling and for some reason 23 danced around as a deadline. Perhaps it’s written in my fate and I had a prophecy.  Sounds right.

Oh em ger, I only have a year left.

So, forget New Years. My new year started October 29th and I officially have 360 days to put some fire under my ass. And for this short time I’ve narrowed my goals down from superstardom and focused on my desire to work in film, design, my nifty Boston Bazaar, my move to Australia or London, and, of course, finish that damn novel I’ve been working on (Stewie voice). Oh, and totally being Tumblr famous 🙂

Oh Shnapps 23 Part I

3 Nov

The night before my birthday I worked late then decided to get some food.  Needless to say it was about 11 by the time I got back to my place.  Instead of rushing to make it to the bar by midnight we did this…

And then we headed to Copley, ran into some peeps on the street and then made it to the bar and I realized I forgot my ID. We get back to my place and head out…again and its 1:30 so we just head over to TITS and take some shots!

And then iHop because that’s the ONLY place open late night in Boston.

Next morning…woke up hungover, had a few glasses of champagne, headed to Louis Boston for Louis Exposure, had a glass of wine….

The the weekend went downhill from there.

-Everyone bailed on my extravagant birthday dinner.

-I said f*** those b****es and headed to my mommy. Whatever, I’ll have some time to write.

-Got caught in a mad blizzard on the highway, car slid the whole way, could barely see, and almost died…my phone was also dying.

-finally made it to Springfield only to be greeted by an entire city blackout and a freezing cold house and no way to charge my phone or laptops. And all of the groceries were going bad! I couldn’t return my redbox, couldn’t go to the atm, couldn’t get gas!

….it was such a tragedy that I ended up laughing the entire freezing night, snuggled with my mom in bed and a bottle of champagne.

28 Oct

It’s my birthday this weekend! I’ve spent the week thrifting and hanging out with mi madre, playing with my new camera and having dinner at my favorite Boston Japanese spot – Red Lantern.

Decided to take these in front of the tattered background I left from the last Boston Bazaar shoot while I took a photo break from watching Bad Girl’s Club, Project Runway, and that new spinoff show…oh and making my dresses for this weekend.

So, since I love this Red Lantern spot so much I decided I wanted to spend my birthday with my friends there.  Sent birthday reminders out a few weeks/month ago and invites last week…of course no one can make it. So, I’m taking my huge reservation and spending it with the people that want to spend my birthday with me.  Whether I show up to my pre-birthday toast is up in the air, but I will definitely go crazy this year. Too many of my birthdays have been… disappointments.

Smack ya Later,

With endless photos!

Oh Glory!

12 Oct

I have the day off!

So last night I hit up the Bushmills party…unlimited free Bushmills booze all night!

And by all night I mean until about 11:30 when it ended.  Of course, I got there fashionably late (had to finish watching 90210 and get dressed).  It was a very cool event. A ton of people showed up, I mean…there were free drinks and cupcakes.  The crowd was pretty awesome too, a lot of stylish folk… check out the albums.

Afterward we headed to the Red Lantern…my new favorite Boston spot! Had an amazing Red Lotus Martini and made plans to spend my birthday there.  It’s gorg…then we noticed the apocalypse ring that was around the moon ~.^ anyone else see that.

Well, I ordered (my mom ordered) me a new camera (for my birthday!) but that should totally be coming soon and I cannot WAIT.  I’ll finally get back to posting my style gallery shots and probably blogging a lot more.

Smack Ya Later,

And Today… I Sketch

19 Sep

Play now…

There’s this really beautiful moment I experience a couple times a year. It’s almost like my stars align and I can see my life…my immediate road ahead, very clearly. Perhaps my imagination has a field day but for this moment my mind’s capacity is filled with visions of what will be. Almost like several light bulbs going off at the same exact time.  I visualize a complete collection…it’s like I can see each model standing in each garment lined at the top of the stage. Last year I literally tried to translate that moment in real life…

(that was a college fashion show btw)

But I know exactly what to sketch when I grab my pad. I know every fabric I want to use and for the first several sketches I don’t even have to look at the page because my imagination has taken over all of my motor skills and my hand is just moving.  The rest is always done in the fabric store.

But also, in that moment I am inspired. I can see every shoot I want to have with The Boston Bazaar…every interview I want done, every story I want to read…

I can see a new character for a story…like we’re meeting for the first time…like he/she is inviting me to take a journey with them.  People often ask me how I come up with some of the stories I write but I can never put my finger on it.  I never plan a story to come…it just does.

The story I’m working on now – now has an ending. I’ve seen it. I can practically see a collection hanging on my clothing rack…I can see the pages of the lookbook... I can hear the music that will play at the shoot… I can feel the warm embrace of the handshake of my first significant interview…my eyes burn from the flash of the camera from the first shot of my shoot… I can smell the breakfast that I’ll eat on a day that I dread…I can taste the tears of discouragement…I can feel my mother’s embrace and practically hear her words…I can feel the fleeting in my stomach as I realize how far I’ve come… I can feel the isolation that awaits me…the joy that has been written for me… the obstacles that will fall upon me and I’m scared…hell, I’m tired just thinking about it but these moments come only so often so you have to take them as what they are…INSPIRATION.

You Know The Feeling

15 Sep

When you’re really excited about something but you have to wait ages to share it….

That’s what I’m experiencing right now.  We are redesigning The Boston Bazaar which will take it from sporadically updated website to AWESOME site with all of the sections up to date…including the fashion, culture, beauty! We’ve never had them all working.

Here’s a little preview.  I’m literally in the middle of working on it so there are some things that need to be changed… like the repetition of The Boston Bazaar and I’m adding the links to the rest of the website…but here’s fashion…

(the photo is random…haven’t added the content yet)

We’ll still have our main homepage that we’re used to, but the rest of the sections will look like this.

I also compared our stats with last years and we’re up 52,210 viewers.  That’s insane.  It’s awesome that its growing but lately a lot of people have seen errors because the site gets over capacity…and that’s because I need to buy more bandwidth.  So, if you’ve been a victim…sorry.

The main page is still in limbo as we update but follow the blog, the new interns are going at it!

Oh Lala Carnaby

8 Sep

Started stretching a pair of Carnabys out to take with me to fashion week! Love.  I hope to have tons of pictures by the end of the weekend to share.  We’re renting out an apartment a few blocks from Lincoln Center. So we shall live the lavish life of the broke and unfamous for a few days!
